Le Shangri-La opens in Paris. The new Parisian hotels, Shangri-La and 7 Eiffel will welcome guests in exceptional style. On the culture scene, the capital finishes refurbishing another of its great monuments, the Arc de Triomphe.

A new private contemporary art centre, directed by two devoted collectors opens to the public. Hermès steals the limelight on the shopping scene with a new shop housed in a former art nouveau swimming pool right in the heart of Saint-Germaindes-Prés. Wine buffs will have their heads spinning with 400 different wine types at the new Ô Château wine bar.


The event of the month this December 2010: the Asia hotel chain Shangri-La has chosen Paris as the destination for its first hotel in Europe. Not only does it offer guests an ideal location in the heart of the Trocadéro district, a few steps from the Arc de Triomphe and the Champs-Élysées, this luxury hotel also offers a breathtaking view of the Eiffel Tower. Housed in a historic building, a former mansion house built at the end of the 19th century for the great-nephew of Napoléon Bonaparte, the hotel was restructured by the architect  Richard Martinet. In harmony with the period, interior designer Pierre-Yves Rochon has decorated it in a perfect Empire style. Marble, gold decoration, high ceilings, fine fabrics, everything evokes the luxury of this period. The hotel has 81 rooms, including 27 suites which are already noted as being some of the largest in Paris (up to 270 m2 for the Suite Impériale!). An interior garden, designed by the landscape architect Louis Benech, offers a haven of peace at the heart of the establishment. Gastronomy is equally impressive with three different kinds of atmosphere, under the direction of starred chef Philippe Labbé: a restaurant serving French cuisine, a Cantonese restaurant and a brasserie under the 19th-century glass roof. The spa offers a relaxing well-being space and treatment rooms, a fitness room and a 16-metre-long swimming pool bathed in natural light.
