The city of Benidorm in Alicante will host the start of the Tour of Spain in 2011, it was today announced officially by the president of the Diputación de Alicante, Jose Joaquin Ripoll,

the director of the Provincial Tourism, Gema Pérez Amor, and the head of Unipublic, Javier Guillén. In addition, they have already revealed that the first stage of the next edition of the Vuelta will be held in the specialty of timed race.

Benidorm and the Tour of Spain have a close and long association since 1962 since there was a final stage and a start from the great spanish race in a city that was emerging as one of the capitals of the world’s tourism.

After the success of Assen (Holland) or Sevilla of the last two seasons, Benidorm takes its place as the starting point of the Vuelta of Spain, a show window for a cosmopolitan city that every year receives more than two million tourists and thanks to the Vuelta will encourage even more, its international dimension.
