Fu Hu and Tuluba – a baby panda and a little elephant, as well as other young animals, capture the hearts of visitors to Schönbrunn Zoo.

Panda Fu Hu in the Schönbrunn Zoo
Roan antelope in the Schönbrunn Zoo
Batagur river terrapin in the Schönbrunn Zoo

Exactly three years to the day after panda bear, Fu Long, was born, Fu Hu, the new baby of the two Schönbrunn pandas, Yang Yang and Long Hui, came into the world on 23 August 2010. This is therefore the second time that Schönbrunn Zoo has successfully managed the complicated natural breeding of these threatened bears. Fu Hu (the "happy tiger") is now also exploring the interior of the panda house, which has been made more "child-proof": Hay has been scattered beneath the tree trunks that Fu Hu is using for his first attempts at climbing. With a little luck, visitors can now watch Fu Hu on his voyage of discovery through the panda house.

The elephant baby, Tuluba (which means "big ears"), was born on 6 August 2010 and also has his first grand appearance behind him. The little pachyderm can be watched daily in the outdoor or indoor enclosure as he plays, eats and romps around. He stays close by his mother, Numbi, and has quickly won visitors' hearts.

The roan antelopes, the largest in Africa after the eland, also produced their next generation at the beginning of October 2010.

In the aquarium house, two young Batagur river turtles can be admired. The northern Batagur river turtle is the rarest and most endangered species to be cared for in a European zoo. Of the only 20 specimens known worldwide, six live in Schönbrunn Zoo, which is particularly proud of the first breeding in captivity.
