A contraction of breakfast and lunch, brunch is an English tradition that has beeen catching on in the capital for several years. Many hotels and restaurants have adopted it and added their particular touch of sweet or savoury essentially French products.

Central Paris – Right bank
From the Marais to the Opéra Garnier district, there are numerous places to brunch on this side of the Seine,
notably in the 3rd and 4th arrondissements. Pamela Popo on two floors and with a terrace has a cosy bistro
atmosphere. It serves two English brunches with home-made cookies, eggs, bagels, salmon, César salad, carrot
cake … Near to the Centre Pompidou, Ozo serves an endless supply of mini-sweet pastries and slices of bread
followed by a selection of cooked eggs and salads. The Dôme du Marais occupies the former auction room of
mont-de-piété. The Sunday brunch is classic and copious (croissants and similar types of bread, slices of bread
and toast, main dishes, desserts) and may be served in the garden under a glass roof. Close by, Le Pain quotidien
welcomes clients with long tables and a choice of three brunches based on organic products (home-made
bread, cakes and pastries and croissants, jam, pâté spreads, salmon, charcuterie, etc.). Still in the heart of the
Marais, visitors can enjoy brunch in a listed 17th-century courtyard on the terrace of the tex-mex restaurant
The Studio: pancakes, croissants and similar types of bread, toast and savoury ‘tortas’. More sophisticated, Cru
also has a fine paved terrace in the Village Saint-Paul. Sunday lunch features its speciality of raw meat and fish
dishes. Away from the noise of the city, L’Estaminet des Enfants rouges occupies the oldest market in Paris. Two
organic brunches are served in a convivial atmosphere: ‘traditional’ (charcuterie, cheese, salads, eggs, etc.) or
‘fish’ (smoked salmon, tartare of seaweed, etc.). Vegetarians will love the brunch at Bob’s Kitchen with its huge
selection of smoothies, salads, soups, futomaki and veggie stew, and oven-roast vegetables with wholemeal
cereals. In the same street, at the end of a courtyard, the Baroque and eclectic decor of Derrière embellishes
the copious buffet brunch that mixes basics (bread, toast, etc.) starters (salads, coleslaw, terrines, etc.), main
courses (salmon steak, club sandwich, etc.) and cakes and pastries. On the Place du marché Saint-Honoré,
Nomad’s serves brunch on its lovely terrace. A cultural space, an interior decor boutique and a restaurant dedicated
to travel, all rolled into one, this ‘chic encampment’ has a classic but varied menu with unlimited fresh fruit
juice. Nearby, the luxurious Hôtel Saint James & Albany has in its restaurant the 202 Rivoli a magnificent patio
in a garden where you can enjoy a delicious sweet and savoury buffet that is set up inside. Near to the Bourse,
Bioboa has a minimalist and designer decor and serves a simple but flavoursome 100 % organic brunch: fresh
fruit juice, homemade cakes and pancakes, open sandwiches, croissants and similar types of bread, fromage
frais/honey and dried fruit … As for Liza, it takes customers to the edge of the Mediterranean with its Lebanese
brunch featuring classics of this delicious cuisine: mezes (hummus, aubergine purée, tabbouleh, ragout of beans
and chick peas, etc.), manakishs, various desserts…

Northern Paris//
The north of Paris, from Montmartre to the area around the Grands Boulevards and towards the La Villette canal
basin, has plenty of places for brunch and caters to all tastes. Customers at Marcel, on the lovely avenue Junot,
in the shadow of Sacré-Coeur, can put together their own brunch from the menu: club sandwich, pata negra
ham, foie gras, organic eggs, pancakes, cereals … Nearby, the buffet at the Café qui parle features excellent
fresh products (fruit salad, eggs, fromage frais, pasta, tabbouleh, etc.) and is popular with local families who
are comfortably seated on the 1950s leather banquettes. Neither do you go away hungry at the Casa Lola which
has a terrace and serves up delicious homemade cakes and biscuits, savoury dishes (bricks, tartare, eggs,
etc.), together with onion bhajis and coleslaw. Culture and food are on the menu at Bal Café, an exhibition
venue in a former dance hall now devoted to visual documentation. At the weekend, the cafe there serves a
delicious Franco-British lunch with scones made with Échiré butter, cheesecake and other cakes, and original
dishes (chicken with fennel, radish soup). Also in the popular 18th arrondissement, the Hôtel Kube is tucked
away in a small street. On Sunday, people go there for its ‘Arty brunch’ during which an artist comments on his
work to a background of soul and jazz music. On the menu: savoury flavours (foie gras, tartare of tuna, etc.),
sweet delights (tiramisu with strawberries, waffles, etc.), bread and viennoiseries. Opposite the La Villette canal
basin, La Rotonde occupies a magnificent 18th-century building. On Sunday, the full (savoury and sweet) and
copious buffet is popular with food lovers before a walk along the canal. Another remarkable building is the
Centquatre, a former public undertaker’s. Now a centre for contemporary design, it has an excellent restaurant,
Les Grandes tables du 104, with long tables where customers can enjoy waffles, tapas, Spanish charcuterie …
which is either organic or a product of responsible farming. Rose Bakery can be found in the 9th arrondissement.
It is a tea room cum delicatessen and renowned for its English brunch: pancakes with maple syrup, bacon and
eggs, sausages, porridge, carrot cake, crumble … You will find all the classics here. Near to République, the very
hip Floréal, with its 1960s decor and pop colours has replaced an old local bistro. It serves an unusual buffet
that mixes pancakes, cheesecake, French toast, fruit salad, oysters, tartare of half-cooked tuna, egg Benedict …
Another surprise too at Nanashi, a Japanese restaurant with eclectic furniture and an open kitchen restaurant,
which has converted brunch into a bento. The result: a small tray with vegetables and salad, egg, boiled ham
or organic salmon. The basic set meal does not include sweet dishes, according to the Japanese tradition.

Southern Paris//
A few steps from the Montparnasse tower block, the Sunday brunch served at Justine, the restaurant of the
Hôtel Pullman, is one of the most popular with Parisian families. Here children are king; special activities are
organized for them in a separate area. The high-quality brunch consists of four buffets with a huge selection
of sweet and savoury dishes (cakes, desserts, couscous, leg of lamb, spring rolls, seafood, etc.) all served in
bright and spacious rooms. Close by, the restaurant-pub Charlie Birdy offers a gentle way to wake up on Sunday
with its soul & jazz brunch featuring US specialities: bagels, burgers, coleslaw, pancakes, cheesecake, etc. Kids
will enjoy their own ‘Charlie Kid’ menu. There’s also an Anglo-Saxon atmosphere at the Café Oz, a restaurant
with Australian-New Zealand roots and a choice of two terraces and a heated conservatory for parents and
their children, for whom special activities are organized. And for the very hungry, there is a generous sweet and
savoury buffet (sauté potatoes, prawns, sausages and bacon, cookies, brownies, etc.). A few streets from here,
opposite a square, two friends have just opened a pretty tea room cum delicatessen with a cosy atmosphere:
Les Pipelettes. Brunch is served on Saturday and consists of excellent quality products: farm eggs, Bordier
butter, and jam from Île de Ré, smoked salmon, taramasalata, sauté new potatoes, scones and homemade fruit
juices… Here too, there is a special menu for children. More to the south, not far from the André Citroën Park,
a modern recently-renovated bistro, Le Granité, serves brunch on Sunday in its lovely bright room with comfortable
banquettes or on its little terrace. On the menu: viennoiseries, fruit salad, fromage frais, homemade foie
gras, smoked salmon and other classics for a hearty brunch.

The west of Paris has a number of palaces whose restaurants include some of the best in the capital. Their
brunches too … Near to Étoile, the Royal Monceau Raffles offers two marvellous brunches in its restaurant
La Cuisine: a full breakfast (sweet and savoury) followed by a film on Saturday, and a Royal brunch on Sunday.
Laid out on an enormous sideboard, the latter includes an impressive number of sweet and savoury dishes of
real gastronomic prowess to enjoy in the hotel’s wonderful garden. Over at the Hôtel de Sers, the restaurant
chef has devised an elegant 100% organic brunch where sweet and savoury are in harmony: scrambled eggs
with caviar, Charolais beef with truffle purée, Irish salmon with champagne zabaglione, marshmallow lollipop
with chocolate, blancmange with red fruit … At L’Orénoc, the restaurant with exotic decor at the Hôtel Méridien
Étoile, a ‘Jazzy brunch’ is served on Sunday. Gourmet music lovers enjoy the sounds of a jazz trio while tucking
into seafood, grilled vegetables, numerous salads, dishes from all over the world and its buffet of desserts. For
those who enjoy orginal flavours, there is the Flora Danica, on the Champs-Élysées, in the Maison du Danemark.
An original brunch mixing French and Scandinavian cooking is served on the beautiful interior terrace. Another
option is the exotic and copious brunch served at Asian, whose hot and cold specialities are an invitation to
travel. There are also special activities (calligraphy, origami, etc.) for children. Grey, pink, white and pop colours
decorate the three large rooms at Môm, a restaurant-bar lounge with a buffet extending over two floors: quiches,

Gêne serves a traditional brunch with inventive flavours (Thai salad, sweet potato chips, crepes, etc.) to enjoy in
a convivial atmosphere; pink banquettes and chairs, olive green or wooden tables. Finally, don’t hesitate to go
to Levallois-Perret for a peaceful brunch on the Seine at Ô Restaurant – the largest floating restaurant in Europe

Whether it is on an island, in a train station, at the hotel … nothing beats an outing in the east of Paris for
brunches with a difference. In the Bois de Vincennes, in the middle of the Lac des Minimes, the Chalet de la
Porte jaune in an enchanting park, is the ideal place for a relaxing Sunday brunch. It offers a copious buffet
of sweet and savoury dishes for the largest appetites: scrambled eggs, kebabs with spices, cheese, patisserie,
etc. Listed as an historic monument like the Chalet de la Porte jaune, Le Train bleu was built on the first floor
of the Gare de Lyon for the 1900 World Fair. Comfortably seated in the large leather armchairs of the Big Ben
bar, you can enjoy a gastronomic brunch that consists of large savoury dishes (foie gras, smoked salmon, etc.),
hot dishes (slices of poultry with morels), cheeses, fine pastries and other delicacies. Nearby, a friendly bistro,
Les Banquettes, serves a fresh and copious brunch. As well as open sandwiches, cupcakes, egg Benedict and a
smoothie, it offers the choice of three main dishes and three homemade desserts. Miss Terroir a fine food store
and neighbour of Les Banquettes, has just one vocation: to introduce clients to French regional products. The
brunch menu includes: fresh fruit juice, various types of bread, homemade jam, farm eggs and butter, sausage
with seaweed, and faisselle goat’s cheese. Near to Bastille, the Murano Urban Resort offers four copious buffets
in the neo-Baroque decor of its restaurant with all the ingredients of a high-class brunch, including champagne.
You can take your plate out onto the patio, whose glass roof opens in fine weather. Not far from here, foodies
will enjoy the fine food store cum trattoria Simone & Nicola run by two Italians. Their very substantial brunch
features Italian products such as homemade antipasti, cream of pumpkin and parmesan, charcuterie and mozzarella.
Finally, on a terrace planted with olive trees and palm trees, La Bellevilloise presents two weekend
brunches. An ‘urban’ brunch on Saturday composed of sweet dishes and savoury bentos and a jazz brunch on
Sunday and on public holidays. On the programme: a jazz concert and a buffet of charcuterie, cooked dishes,
cheese and desserts.
