The first double decker tourist buses will be launched in Moscow only in September. Three buses have already tried new routes оn Friday, August 17.
Double decker buses were expected to start running in Moscow in July, as we previously reported. However tourists will have opportunity to enjoy the first city tour only in September, according to the website of the Moscow Committee for Tourism and Hotel Industry.
Now organizers verify technical parameters of transport, make route and schedule adjustments. The first batch of buses brought to Moscow are the same as most cities in Germany and northern Europe use for sightseeing tours. Climatic features of the Moscow region have been taken into consideration. In the cold season it is planned to use warm double decker buses with double glazing. A ticket for this excursion costs 600 rubles per day for adults. Tourists can get off the bus at any of the 18 stops along the way, explore the places in detail then get back on the tour bus using the same ticket.
Buses will run through the city from 10 am to 18 pm on working days and up to 19 hours on weekends, there are also night excursions. Passengers will be able to explore a variety of Moscow attractions - the Kremlin, Red Square, Manege, St. Basil's Cathedral, the Bolshoi Theatre, the Cathedral of Christ the Savior, etc.
Hop- on hop- off bus tours are very popular among tourists in many cities of the world. It should be noted that currently Moscow is the only major city in Europe without "City tour" service. The project has been implemented by City Sightseeing Company (Spain) with the support of the Moscow Committee for Tourism and Hotel Industry and the Moscow City Department of Transportation.
