Summer Flight Plan News
One new destination in Düsseldorf: Air Berlin is extending its long-haul offer to North America starting two times per week to San Francisco from 12 May. The Californian port is one of the most popular destinations in the US among German tourists and offers, aside from its impressive landscape, the marvellous Pacific and mild climate, numerous sights such as the Golden Gate Bridge or The Rock, the famous federal prison, on Alcatraz Island. In the summer Air Berlin will resume flights to New York on a daily basis and to Los Angeles three times a week. These connections were, as usual, suspended by Air Berlin during the Winter Flight Plan. During summer Miami will be flown to five times a week. Fort Myers may be reached by passengers of Air Berlin four times per week. Last but not least Air Berlin is offering two non-stop connections from Düsseldorf to Vancouver.
Air Berlin is also extending its route network from the airport of Düsseldorf by adding one attractive destination in the Middle East. From 11 June the airline will be flying to Tel Aviv two times a week. Israel's second largest city is the economic and cultural center of the country. For this connection Düsseldorf International serves also as a hub for Air Berlin's flights to North America.
For the first time Air Berlin will be flying to the Spanish city of Bilbao. The red & white colored jets take off daily for the most important and largest city in the Spanish Basque Country, which, among other things, is famous for its Guggenheim Museum. Further Air Berlin destinations from Düsseldorf comprise Naples in Italy, the Greek port Volos, and Heringsdorf on the island of Usedom. Besides, Air Berlin will continue to operate the connections to Krakow and Salzburg, which were new in the winter.
Another piece of uncharted territory on the route map of Düsseldorf International is finally going to disappear: From 12 April Lufthansa will be heading for Lisbon. The Portuguese capital will be flown to daily. The flight time is about three hours. Now, travelers may enjoy the warm climate, tasty food and the historical sights on the Tagus, non-stop from Düsseldorf. Absolutely recommendable is a ride on the streetcar through the narrow and steep streets of the old part of the town. However, not recommendable for bad nerves!
From this summer Lufthansa will also be flying to Athens five times per week - the Greek capital likewise being a new destination the airline is offering from Düsseldorf.
One more highlight in Lufthansa's flight plan is Edinburgh. The Scottish capital, which will be headed for by Lufthansa six times a week, is famous for combining the medieval Old Town and the Georgian New Town as well as for its awardwinning, modern architecture. It offers many spectacular impressions by its mysterious, narrow and winding streets, elegant terraces and numerous shops, bars and restaurants. Edinburgh Castle dominates the city center's skyline.
Furthermore, Lufthansa is including the Polish port Gdansk, Dubrovnik in the South of Croatia and Italian Naples in its flight plan from Düsseldorf for the first time this summer.
And yet another piece of good news from the airline with the encircled crane-in-flight logo: Lufthansa will resume flights to all long-haul destinations, such as Miami/Toronto, New York and Chicago this year.
For the first time easyJet is represented in Düsseldorf's airport in summer, too. Since the last winter the airline has been offering flights to Basle, Rome-Fiumicino and London-Gatwick from its new location Düsseldorf - and it will serve these destinations also in the summer.
Germania will be flying to Beirut, the Lebanon's capital city, every Thursday in the course of the Summer Flight Plan and keep up operations to Damascus, which was established as a destination in the winter. There will be two flights a week to Syria's capital.
The Russian airline Orenair that already offered flights to Orenburg last summer will be flying to the Russian city of Chelyabinsk in the Ural and to Omsk in Siberia. These are two new intercontinental destinations in Düsseldorf's flight plan.
There is also positive news from Emirates. The airline from the UAE (United Arab Emirates) has commenced its regular flights to Dubai since January already with a Boeing 777-300 instead of the Airbus 330-200 used so far. The aircraft has 364 seats distributed in a three-class configuration, which means a 50 percent increase in capacity of seats.
Delta Air Lines takes off daily from Düsseldorf to Atlanta as of the beginning of the Summer Flight Plan. The increase of the frequency from five flights per week to daily departures is planned for the entire summer flight plan.
