New food and wine trail along King Valley Prosecco Road, Victoria
As Australia’s largest producer of prosecco, the new King Valley Prosecco trail is an ideal day out for those in the region, just over a three hour drive from Melbourne. First, second and third generation Italian migrant families have continued a tradition by treating the Australian palate with their Mediterranean-inspired wines. In 2000, Otto Dal Zotto planted the first prosecco vines in the King Valley. Since then, five other King Valley winemakers have followed suit - Brown Brothers, Chrismont, Ciccone, Pizzini and Sam Miranda. In 2011, all six joined forces to offer intimate food and wine cellar door experiences. Visitors can also sign up for a prosecco masterclass or cooking course. www.kingvalleyproseccoroad.com.au

50th anniversary of the Henley on Todd Regatta, Northern Territory
The annual regatta that takes place in Alice Springs celebrates its 50th anniversary this year. The Henley on Todd Regatta, which takes place on 20 August, sees participants racing up the dried-up Todd River bed inside a variety of bottomless vessels – yachts, bathtubs and rowing boats! The races take place 900 miles from the nearest large body of water and have become a cult event since they started in 1962. In 2011, this iconic Territory event will welcome locals and tourists as they join in or just enjoy the hilarity from under the shade of gum trees on the edge of the dry Todd River bed. www.henleyontodd.com.au
