Cocktails and smoothies. Cocktails and smoothies are a huge trend in the capital at the moment. The most famous barmen even agree to share the secrets behind their cocktails, giving lessons in bars or in specialist

venues. They can be tasted in many different ways, in a bar at -10°C, with an edible cup, vegetables, flowers ... The same goes for smoothies that boost your vitamin intake with a few mouthfuls! Cocktail bars

Numerous bars in Paris offer cocktails. Some of them have a speciality, a little something different which is really worth tasting. Hotel bars for example make very pleasant settings for sipping these famous cocktails. At the E7, the bar of the Édouard 7 hotel, the speciality is vegetable cocktails, with or without alcohol. Comfortably seated at the circular bar, you can taste Régis Celabe’s organic creations made-to-order with fresh fruit and vegetables. At the bar of the Plaza Athénée, Thierry Hernandez offers experimental and original cocktails such as those served in a cup just as edible as the cocktail that it contains, jelly drinks or even sorbet cocktails. In a decor that is both contemporary and full of history, around a lit-up glass sculpture-bar, you come here to be seen or to see
Parisian stars. For fans of vodka and unusual experiences, the Ice Kube bar of the Kube hotel offers a selection of vodka-based cocktails served in an atmosphere of -10°C. Warm up with one of the four cocktails served while watching the animated projections on the wall of ice. The Hemingway bar at the Ritz remains the most famous hotel cocktail bar. Legend has it that it was in this cosy, comfortable setting that the Bloody Mary was invented, at the request of writer Ernest Hemingway. Here, the famous Colin Field continues this tradition, creating cocktails according to the tastes and cravings as well as the mood of his guests. The more confidential private bar of the Hôtel Particulier Montmartre welcomes cocktail fans on prior reservation. David, the barman and artist from New York, offers his own cocktail creations inspired from his travels and spur-of-the-moment ideas. In the refined and charming setting of the garden, you can enjoy relaxed evenings and the tranquility of Montmartre hill while sipping a unique cocktail. With an atmosphere and flavours from afar, the Tsé, located in the former Gare d’Auteuil, offers fresh flower-based cocktails. In a refined Asian-style decor with velvet, wood, silky materials and marble, guests can listen to jazz and watch the sun set on the teak terrace. In a very friendly atmosphere, the Zéro de conduite bar offers a fun way to drink cocktails: they are served in babies’ bottles! Each night, board games are offered and guests can take their baby’s bottle home at the end of the night. At the Réservoir, the tastebuds as well as the eyes of cocktail fans will be delighted. Here, in this hot spot for Parisian nightlife, the art of making cocktails turns into a show. The barmen juggle their bottles and shakers to the great delight of their audience.

This place even specializes in the competition for the best barmen and each year hosts France’s championships.
In the Montorgueil district, the Experimental cocktail club specializes in creating cocktails. In just a few years it
has become the favourite place of fans. Here, you find rather jazzy music, comfortable sofas and warm decor.
Another cocktail club, this time located on the Parisian Rive Gauche, the Prescription cocktail club offers “civilized
and distinguished” cocktails. In a setting resembling an 18th century bookshop with bowler-hats as lampshades,
the atmosphere is very cosy and the menu offers both traditional cocktails and new creations. But, there is
nothing better than drinking a unique cocktail, made-to-measure according to your taste, mood and what you
feel like. At the Pixel, everyone can compose their own cocktail by giving a list of their favourite ingredients to
the barman and Michel will come up with the best mix possible. And if he likes the cocktail he creates for you,
he could well give it a name and add it to the cocktail menu.

A lesson in cocktail making
Cocktails are a big trend at the moment. So, what could be better than making them yourself? Many places in
Paris give lessons on all the secrets behind making them with valuable little tips from the best barmen. Some
even offer participants all the necessary utensils to make these compositions.
Renowned for his famous cocktails, Yann Daniel, head barman of the Park Hyatt Paris Vendôme hotel bar, offers
2 hr 30 min. lessons two Saturdays a month. In small groups, each participant learns how to make cocktails and
is introduced to the art of the shaker, mixing original ingredients. Learn how to differentiate between long and
short drinks, to crush ice and to carefully press mint or ginger to create the most incredible cocktails. And so
that you can practice at home, each participant receives an accessories box and a book of the recipes learnt during
the lessons. As someone who has excelled behind the bar since 1994, Colin Field is one of the most famous
barmen in the capital. He creates cocktails for the Hemingway bar of the Hôtel Ritz and gives 1 hr 30 min.
lessons every Saturday afternoon. On the programme: the history of a selection of not-to-be-missed cocktails,
the chef’s secrets, measurements to follow and choosing of ingredients. At the end of the lesson, each participant
takes away a cocktail glass engraved with the Ritz coat of arms. Every Wednesday and Saturday, the chefs of
the bar at the Murano Urban Resort share their secrets with groups of around ten people. Each person learns
how to create and mix original cocktails. A book of ten exclusive recipes is presented to each participant. As its
name indicates, Terres d’Apéritifs (land of the aperitif ) specializes in all that concerns the art of the aperitif. This
company offers all the necessary utensils to prepare different drinks as well as regular training sessions for an
introduction to or to perfect your cocktail-making skills. These lessons, for a maximum of eight people, are given
by Jean-Marc of the Buddha Bar. They last 2 hrs 30 min. and are a great way for participants to learn how to
use a “strainer, shaker, stirrer and pestle”, as well as to mix and learn the main ingredients, how to combine
them, and how to decorate and present their drinks. The Atelier des Sens specializes in all types of cooking and
offers lessons including those on cocktails. Accompanied by a professional barman, participants learn how to
handle different instruments and to blend flavours. Afterwards, participants test their creations exchanging with
other cocktail fans to find the perfect alchemy. La Cuisine Paris also offers cocktail and mixology lessons and
promises a discovery of the secrets behind the preparation of these drinks. At Autour d’une table, each person
learns how to create three different cocktails which change for each lesson. Afterwards, participants taste their
cocktails while snacking on tapas specially created for the occasion.

Juice and smoothie bars
For a delicious way to get plenty of vitamins there is nothing better than a smoothie! A clever mix of several
fruits or juices, mixed to make a delicious drink; it can be enjoyed as it is or added to milk, yogurt or ice-cream.
The Paris-Féni fruit bar, located in the 11th arrondissement, offers delicious mixes of fresh fruit and vegetables
with an emphasis on flavours from Bangladesh — from where the establishment’s two founders originate. In the
shade of the trees, it is an ideal place to relax and cool down with one of the home-made creations such as the
mango-basil or cucumber, orange or mint cocktail. Bob’s juice bar stands a few metres from the canal Saint-Martin.
This vegetarian address offers a lunch menu as well as fruit juices and smoothies made-to-order. Bob, a New-
Yorker who has lived in Paris for several years, offers cooking rich in vitamins and fruit and vegetable cocktails
that adapt to the seasons. At Soup & Juice, everyone can choose their own favourite fruit and vegetables for
their drink, which is promptly prepared by the barman. You can also choose to add a mix of vitamins or a “booster”
like acerola, pollen or ginger with energizing properties. Lastly, Wanna Juice, located on rue Montorgueil, offers
one of the biggest choices of smoothies in Paris, with red fruits, orchard fruits or exotic fruits, to which you can
add magical ingredients such as ginseng, acerola or acai for a boost of extra vitamins.
