Alex Katz is the best-known representative of figurative painting. A selection of the prints produced by the American artist can be seen in the Albertina from May to September.
Alex Katz has donated around 500 prints , several portfolio works and artist's books of the last 60 years to the Albertina. The most important of these works can be seen in the exhibition entitled " Alex Katz Prints " . This donation means the Albertina is able to present an extensive retrospective of his prints for the first time outside the USA. Katz has tried out new creative possibilities with the aid of different print techniques, for which he mostly uses ideas taken from his paintings and cut-outs.
Katz's pictures are above all known for their outsized formats . In them, Katz shows cut-outs from the life of America's wealthy leisure-oriented society and seemingly unapproachable natural idylls.
