Project Amsterdam Street Art is a new organisation and festival (8-12 June) eager to bring street art to prominence in the city, akin to the culture's visibility in Berlin, Barcelona and London.

Street art is no longer just about quick graffiti tags. These days, around the world, street artists are making political statements, social wise cracks, or just bringing some colour to your dreary walk to work through a range of mixed media.

While Amsterdam flourishes with art in museums and galleries, and with historical figures such as Rembrandt and Van Gogh, a young and restless scene of local street artists have found that, so far, Amsterdam has struggled to contend with other European cities...

Project Amsterdam Street Art will paint the town red, among other colours, as international and local artists converge on the streets, clubs and galleries of Amsterdam, spray cans in hand.

Artists like London Police (pictured above), Pez, Galo, Faunagraphic (pictured right) will take part at paint jams and exhibitions across town; at Bob's Hostel, Bep Gallery, Go Gallery and Outland Records before kicking on to after parties at Sugar Factory, Café de Duivel and Flexbar.

Wednesday 9 June
A selection of artists will paint the I amsterdam letters on Museumplein from 10:00 so check out all the action of what these amazing street artists can do live. The letters will remain painted until Tuesday 15 June.
