One of the best ways to get to know a country is through its cuisine, and Chile, along with its extreme geography and more than 4,000 kilometers of Pacific coast, makes for a truly unique culinary experience.

Foody Chile has attempted to unite this wealth of ingredients with a series of culinary tours that display the variety of products and influences of urban culture.

One of such tours starts in the historic center of Santiago. The tour takes about 3 or 4 hours to explore the abundance of local markets. The tour includes 4 or 5 stops to sample different dishes and beverages. It also includes a visit to La Moneda (the presidential palace); the square called the “Plaza de Armas,” the Central Market, Santa Lucía Hill and the Lastarria and Bellas Artes neighborhoods.

Another one of the things that Food Chile promotes is getting on a bicycle and “tasting” the best corners and places of Santiago’s most iconic neighborhoods. This tour starts from “Parque Bustamente” and continues up to the Central Market, where fresh seafood and fish arrive every day. After a brief stroll it arrives at “La Vega Central,” the biggest and noisiest produce market in the city. Both of these places are part of Santiago’s historical identity.

Campo Gourmet is the name of the tour that begins by purchasing fresh products in a number of gourmet markets. After that, it goes on to drive 45 minutes south of Santiago to get to the town of Champa. There, in a traditional country home, lunch is prepared using the recently bought market ingredients, and accompanied by a Chilean wine or craft beer. The experience is topped off with a short hike up to a lookout point to get a view of the entire valley.
