Alternative club scenes. Clubbing in Paris can be found in unexpected places. Alongside nightclubs, the bars, restaurants, hotels, cultural sites and other unusual places are all investing in partying to satisfy eager night owls.

Private lounge and club atmosphere in hotels.
Hotels in all categories, from concept to 5-star hotels, are investing in the partying scene. Hosts along with their guests are flocking to fashionable night venues to listen to the sounds of DJs. The bar of the Hôtel Ritz Paris*****, the Ritz Club, promises a chic and trendy evening with a sharp electro programme. You also find trendy young people and celebs in the bar of this famous hotel, a strictly upscale place. With chairs in red velvet, a marble fireplace, wood-panelling and gilding, elegance and electro mix well. These electro evenings take place at the weekend, along with occasional “DJ Selectors” evenings on Thursday. The bar of the Murano Urban Resort has a firm contemporary feel, apparent as soon as you enter: bright colours decorate the leather walls, the ceiling and its circular lights, and all the armchairs. All the furniture has a refined style, showed off to effect in a softly lit atmosphere. The programme varies with DJs playing lounge, electro or world music. Each Thursday, the bar invites a “star” actor, musician or even a TV presenter to take control of the turntables and share their favourite music.

The Murano Urban Resort bar has an edgy musical scene with live concerts during the week and VJing (Video DJ) sessions on Saturday night. In the 18th arrondissement, the Kube hotel offers themed nights: on Wednesday, for example, it is girls only at the turntables and it is often a “female celebrity” that gets the clubbers in the partying mood. A new address in the chic 16th arrondissement, the Mon bar, the bar-club of the Mon Hôtel****, has a cosy setting with a ‘50s style. Evenings here are varied with DJs at the turntables, “blind tests” (guess the artist games), and more surprising “girls nights”. The bar of the Hôtel Amour**, in the 9th arrondissement, is equally cosy and draws a cool crowd. Lastly, rap and R & B tunes play through the bars on the ground floor of Mama Shelter**, providing an atmosphere far from that of the classic lounge. The Mama Shelter also hosts jam sessions and live DJ sessions.

Trends in bars and restaurants

Club nights for all night birds! Certain bars and restaurants compete with traditional nightclubs by transforming into a dance space from 10pm, and so becoming a place for clubbing. On rue Amelot, at the heart of a rapidly developing district, numerous bars offer a dance floor, often in the basement, promising a great night out. The Panic Room has a mini-club feel and is both trendy and cosy. The Pop In, with decor that has a true rustic spirit, offers a constant wave of live concerts and DJ sessions. L’Alimentation générale, in rue Jean-Pierre-Rimbaud, closes at 2am during the week, but allows party animals to dance the night away until the early hours (4am) on Friday and Saturday. The music is eclectic with rock, groove, electro, funk and disco – something to suit all tastes! There is even a ball on the first Sunday of every month for popular French music lovers. The garage-style decor of the bar a few steps from Bastille, with the curious name of La Mécanique ondulatoire, has three levels for partying. At basement level a vaulted cellar plays host to groups playing sixties or grunge music.

The ground floor steps up the rhythm with energetic dancing to DJ music. The same winning concert and clubbing duo is present at the bar Les Disquaires. Here, there is a concert every night and clubbing nights from Wednesday onwards boast the most fashionable DJs. For a lounge atmosphere, there are two hip addresses n the capital that are particularly renowned for their cocktail menus; the Experimental Cocktail Club and the Prescription Cocktail Club offer chic, relaxed decor and regular DJ nights. Lastly, in another new genre of club, restaurants become a party scene! At the trendy Chacha, on rue Berger, you can prolong a dinner with a night of dancing in heady red lighting, with electro music and disco balls. Le Lup also offers the chance to mix the pleasures of dining and dancing. As the musicians play live music, it is often difficult to resist. So, everyone on the dance floor!

Trends in cultural and unusual places

Museums and art centres occasionally reveal a very festive side! 51 is located at the Cinémathèque française, the centre of Parisian cinema on rue de Bercy. This restaurant hosts summer events, the “bals pop” (pop dances) on its terrace. The sounds of DJs fill late afternoons and early evenings, between two showings. A new style of clubbing, earlier than usual and in the open air! The Cinémathèque is also counting on being a new “place to be” for the rest of the year: a Mongolian yurt with a surface area of 130 m2 could well become the birthplace of original club nights. The Grand Palais, near to the Champs-Élysées, regularly hosts major events such as electro nights or large private functions to which it ad ds a very prestigious touch. Lastly, you can surprisingly find a very festive atmosphere at Parisian ice rinks! The Espace Pailleron ice-rink now holds club nights, during which DJs, often from well-known labels, try to get skaters dancing during special “On ice” parties. Following on the wave of this success, the Espace Pailleron swimming pool has started a new genre of party evening: a live mix swimming pool party, “Aqua night fever”. A clubbing trend to watch closely!
