Tourism Australia Managing Director Andrew McEvoy and China Southern Airlines President Tan Wangeng signed an agreement that outlines a marketing strategy to invest AU$9 million over the next twelve months with the airline.
The said agreement is in line with Tourism Australia's 2020 strategy that targets middle class Chinese in primary cities. Tourism Australia Managing Director Andrew McEvoy was quoted in eTravel Blackboard as having said that underpinning Tourism Australia's Tourism 2020 strategy is recognition that Australia’s international aviation capacity needs to grow by between 40 to 50 percent this decade, with China a big part of those numbers.
China Southern Airlines has nearly quadrupled capacity to Australia by opening up direct access between China and Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne and Perth, and soon in Cairns. The airlines' new Cairns service will start in December 2012.
