Thousands of people were evacuated as Typhoon Fitow slammed into the east coast of China on Monday. Alerts were issued by the Met department as tourists stayed back in their hotel rooms for safety.
A landfall was reported in Fujian province, houses collapsed in Cangnan County as the storm packed up winds of up to 150 kms an hour. Most of the regions in China suffered blackouts as the National Meteorological Centre issued a red alert, according to reports.
Though no casualties were reported as of yet, two port workers in Zhejiang’s city of Wenzhou went missing.
More than 150 flights were cancelled and bullet train services were suspended in several cities.
