Cabinetmakers, goldsmiths, textile designers, mosaic artists … Paris’s artisans give Paris its prestigious reputation in the arts.

Places dedicated to craftsmanship and art professions
Whether it’s about ancestral know-how or the latest techniques, Parisian venues showcase their work and give
the public the opportunity to gain a greater knowledge, admire and buy. If Paris is the capital of luxury and
fashion, it makes sense for it to be the capital of the arts trade, which contributes to this tradition of excellence:
gilders, cabinetmakers, marquetry inlayers, varnishers, bronze artists and goldsmiths have their workshops here.

It was from the 15th century onwards that artisans moved into the district that would later become the Faubourg
Saint-Antoine, a stone’s throw from the place de la Bastille. It’s therefore not surprising to find here a well-known
place dedicated to craftsmanship: the Ateliers de Paris creation/innovation. Both an exhibition space and a
nursery for new talents, the Ateliers de Paris helps companies to develop in the art, fashion and design sectors.
The venue welcomes the public to its gallery to see work by new and established artists on a variety of
themes and techniques. On the second floor, an exhibition presents the traditional know-how of the furniture
and decoration trades. On other floors, artists in residence benefit from specific support for their projects and
a workshop: here you can find hatters, textile designers, fashion designers, jewellery designers, culinary artists,
tile setters, etc. Once a year on workshop open days, the public can come and see behind-the-scenes.
Not far from here, still in the historic artisanal district of the 12th arrondissement, is the Viaduc des Arts. Under
the vaulted arcades of the Promenade plantée, along the avenue Daumesnil, 51 artisans open their doors to the
public, Parisians and foreigners, who appreciate strolling around as well as artistic discovery. A truly prestigious
presentation of French artisanal work, where you can find creations as diverse as porcelain painting, picture
framing, traditional dolls, music boxes, contemporary furniture, gilding on wood, etc. Whilst the doors to the
workshop-boutiques are open, the public can get to know these artisans and, why not, buy a special Parisian
souvenir to take home.

To prolong this enjoyable experience, the boutique Talents – Ateliers d’art de France offers the possibility to buy
decorative and designer objects, tableware, lights, and furniture in a 160m2 space just a stone’s throw from the
Place de l’Opéra. The unique and limited series works of more than 70 artisans and creators are presented here
in a bright, airy and contemporary space. Fans of beautiful things can even discuss with artisans the possibility
of creating a bespoke item.
